How to Make Money from ATMs

With ATM cash machines currently costing anywhere from $3,000 to $30,000, there is no doubt that buying one for your business is costly. If you arrange things right, however, buying an ATM can actually be a very sound investment.

Provided that you primarily manage the machine yourself, ongoing maintenance costs shouldnt be too high. Youll have to pay for the electricity to fun the machine, as well as around $40/month for a dedicated phone line, and $50 each time the machine is professionally re-loaded.

There may also be a monthly charge (usually $15 to $25 per month), which is required by some vendors but not others. It is important to take these fees into account when considering different machines and doing price comparison research.

Once you have paid all these little fees, however, it is possible to make money on your ATM by collecting a percentage of the surcharge. The average charge for an ATM transaction is $1.60, and as the owner of the machine, all or a portion of this money will go to you.

Depending on your contract with the ATM vendor, and how much of the maintenance work you do yourself, your share of the money can range from 35% to 100%. There is also the added benefit that customers will never find themselves short of cash when making a purchase at your store.

Therefore, installing an ATM machine not only helps your existing business, but can become a fully sustainable or even profitable business in itself.

Making Weight For Wrestling; Part II

This month Id like to start with a little story. It goes back to my days as a competitive powerlifter. I competed for 12 years in powerlifting, and recall many contests where I had to cut weight. Towards the end of my powerlifting career I was about 196 lbs. I could have competed in the 198 lb. class, but elected to drop down to the 181 lb. class to take a shot at a 500 lb. bench press. There werent too many guys in those days who benched 500 lbs. in the 181 lb. weight class so it sounded like a good idea.

For the first year I was going to make this attempt, I had my best training lift of 475 lbs. for 3 repetitions in the gym. That would equate to about 530 lbs. for me. It was the best training session ever, and my contest was the following week. I was super strong, and super ready to go get the job done. I only had to drop from 196 lbs. to 181 lbs. and had a week to do it. Worst case scenario, I KNEW Id finally get my 500 lb. bench press at 181 lbs. of body weight.

I wanted to keep strong, so I waited until Wednesday of that week to start cutting weight, for the Saturday morning weigh-in at 9 am and the powerlifting contest at 12 noon.

I just ate 3 small meals each day, and they were basically sandwiches, and protein shakes. By Friday night I was 189 lbs. I had to lose 8 more lbs. and knew Id just take off the water weight by the time weigh-ins rolled around. Heck, Id get a couple of hours to get the water back in, so I could probably compete weighing a full 195-196 lbs. and finally get that 500 bench.

I didnt drink any water, and sat in my friends sauna for a few hours on and off. The weight was coming off. I was tired, and didnt feel too great, but the weight was coming off. Besides, I could still put the water back in my system and compete feeling strong.

At 9am the following morning, I weighed in at 181lbs. on the nose. After weigh-ins I guzzled Gatorade and water. I tried to eat a bit, but my appetite was mainly for water and Gatorade, not solid food. I also ate a banana to get my potassium level back up. The long and the short of it was that I only bench pressed 470 lbs. that day. It was good enough to win that particular powerlifting contest, but it was a personal disappointment. I knew something was wrong. The next week at the gym, I was comfortably weighing 197 lbs. and my bench press was even better. I hadnt trained since the contest, but the following Saturday I was pushing weight that would equate to a 535lb. bench press.

What did I learn from this experience?

I learned that if you want to keep your strength, youd better cut weight correctly. If youre a wrestler or a powerlifter, your goal is to have your best performance. Wrestlers dont lift maximum weight to win a match, but it makes sense to assume that if you are at your strongest, you will wrestle at your best!

With all things equal, the stronger wrestler wins!

With this in mind, here are some guidelines for cutting water weight, in order to wrestle at your best:

Use proper weight cutting methods to lose fat first If you dont have much fat on your body, you either have to trick your body in order to encourage more fat loss, or accept that your body will cannibalize its own muscle for food otherwise. Youll need to be eating 6 or 7 small protein-centered meals throughout the day.

Be no more than 3 or 4 lbs. over weight class two days before. Listen carefully. There are some basic physiological truths in this world. You cannot cut 10 lbs in one day, and have it come from fat. It has to be dehydration. Dehydrating will make you weaker if severe. I dont care how tough you are, how good you are at wrestling, who you learned from etc. If you cut too much over night, you might win the match or tournament in spite of poor weight cutting techniques, but you wont wrestle at YOUR personal best! It wont matter until youve met your match. Be smart with your weight cutting.

Dont dehydrate. You should begin restricting water about 15 hours before you weigh in. That means you will drink 6-8 ounces of water every 3 hours beginning 15 hours before weigh in. If you feel like you cant drink any water at this point, and try to merely sweat it out the old-fashioned way, you will not keep your strength.

The Super-Saturation meal 36 hours before you weigh in (assuming that youre at 3-4 lbs. over) you should super-saturate the muscle cells. To do this, you would have a big carbohydrate meal (pasta, rice, yams, baked potatoes, etc.) You eat as much as you can comfortably eat during this meal. You then restrict carbohydrates the rest of that day, and the next day. Dont worry, although your body will use the stored carbohydrates (now in the muscle cells as glycogen) for energy, you will still have glycogen stored in your liver. Your body will be able to use this stored liver glycogen for energy on wrestling day. After the super-saturation meal, you will eat basically all-protein meals.

Had I known then what I know now, I might have hit my 500 lb. bench press in the 181 lb. class. Instead I came in at a comfortable weight of 193 lbs. later that year and got my 500lb. bench and just missed a 535 lb. attempt. Learn from my mistakes. Cut your weight properly, consistently, and watch your wins increase tremendously!

How You Can Save Up to 50% or More on Your Next RV Rental Vacation

RV rental vacations arent cheap, but they do contain loads of opportunities for savings. In fact, there are probably more ways in which the proactive RV rental vacationer can save money than in any other mode of vacation travel.

Entertainment costs are often lower (enjoying RV and campground experience often serves as a major source of entertainment). You also have the option of doing some, or all, of your own meal preparation meals and drinks can cost about the same as if youd stayed home.

An RV vacation has potential for savings in a wide range of areas. Here are a few examples:

1. Travel in the Shoulder Seasons. The Shoulder Seasons are those periods between the big prices (and huge crowds) of Peak Season and the low prices (and generally unpleasant weather) of Off Season. Depending on the part of the country, the dealer, and the time of year, Shoulder Season base rates can be 20% to 40% below what you would have to pay in Peak Season. If you dont absolutely have to travel with the big crowds, explore the advantages of RVing in the Shoulder Seasons.

2. Dont Buy Special Clothing. Unlike trips you may have taken in the past, RV vacations dont require any special clothing. Casual and comfortable thats the RV lifestyle. If you plan to go out to someplace special, you might bring one outfit thats a bit upscale. Otherwise, think casual and comfortable as you pack and your wardrobe will be perfect.

3. Dont Buy Special Equipment. As you begin to get ready for your first ever RV trip, it is tempting to start thinking about all the special equipment you need. The truth is that, beyond what youll get from your RV rental dealer, you dont need any of it. If you are serious about keeping your vacation affordable, resist the temptation to go out and buy boxes full of gadgets. (On the other hand, a couple of totally frivolous items can be a lot of fun.)

4. Minimize Eating Out. The more serious you are about saving money, the more you may want to take advantage of your RVs kitchen. Prepare a special meal or two, each in a special place, and you can add great memories to your RV vacation even as you are saving money.

5. Take Advantage of Campground Recreational Offerings. Plan some do-nothing time. Stay in the same campground for an extra night and spend a day just hanging out. Lay around the pool. Read a book. Fix a special meal. Enjoy a sunset. Youll find some of your best vacation memories in those times when you did absolutely nothing as in, We woke up in the morning with absolutely nothing to do and went to bed that evening having only accomplished about half of it.

6. Dont Pay for Hookups That You Dont Need. Most campgrounds offer a variety of campsite options. You will be offered a choice of sites with no hookups, with water and electric only, or with full hookups. The tendency is to think, Hey, Im on vacation here. What the heck, give me the works! Think about what hookups you actually need. You can usually stop at the campgrounds dump station to empty your holding tanks as you leave. Over a two week vacation, consistently paying for full hookups when you actually only need water and electric could easily cost you an extra $100.

7. Dont Use Your Propane When You Can Use Their Electricity. Refilling your propane tank(s), while not horribly expensive, has both a time and a money cost. Several systems in your rental RV will operate with either electricity or propane specifically your refrigerator and your water heater. Water heaters in particular consume massive amounts of propane. When in a campground and connected to shore power use their electricity, not your propane, to heat your water and run your refrigerator.

8. Bring your own snacks. Your rental RV comes with a refrigerator and cupboards. Set them up as your snack and drink sources. Roadside convenience stores tend to offer snacks which are both more expensive and nutritionally inferior to those you can pack yourself. When the time comes to replenish your snack supplies, do so at a major supermarket or a discount warehouse not at a convenience store.

9. Buy Sunscreen and Insect Repellent Before You Leave Home. You can expect to pay double for the same stuff if you dont! When you are being eaten alive by mosquitoes, you wont be likely to spend much time looking for bargains.

10. Contact the Visitor Center and/or Chamber of Commerce In Each Area You Plan to Visit. You can find their numbers on the internet or through directory assistance. Tell them when you plan to be in their area and ask their advice on places to go and things to do. Most will be able to send you maps and brochures. Many will even have local newsletters where you can find lists of events scheduled during the time of your vacation. Take a few minutes to visit with these representatives; they can probably even suggest a few things outside of the normal tourist routines which could be ideal for your family.

11. Avoid High Speeds. Depending on how much driving you do, fuel costs may be one of the most significant items in your RV rental vacation budget. One way of reducing those costs is to drive a bit slower. Driving at 62 mph will reduce your fuel consumption by around 15% when compared to what it would be if driving at 75 mph. Driving slower is also much safer and a lot less tiring.

12. Keep Tires Properly Inflated. Another fuel saver is to keep tire air pressures at the levels recommended by your dealer. Studies have shown that a single tire under inflated by 2 PSI can increase fuel consumption by 1%. It is scary to think about the impact it must have on gas mileage to drive a Class C Motorhome with 6 tires each under-inflated by 5 or 10 pounds!!

Clearly there are a lot of ways to save money on your RV rental vacation. Many will not only save you money, but will increase the quality of your vacation experience at the same time. A better vacation for less money. Its what we are all looking for!

Wine Tasting Party

Do you have to be a sommelier to know something about wine? Well, if you want to tout yourself as an expert, perhaps but if you just want to enjoy a good glass of wine, go with your gut - or rather your mouth - and enjoy what tastes good to you. So, why not host a wine tasting party? Now before you hit the panic button, get uptight and claim to know nothing about wine, stop! We aren't proposing you sit around discussing bouquet and barrel fermenting. We want you to have a little fun.

You can buy wine tasting party kits from various sources on the internet and local shops. Don't want a kit? Here's what you need:

  • Guests - think about whom you know that likes and drinks wine and keep the numbers small
  • A few bottles of wine that you think you might like - both red and white. Depending on the size of the crowd plan on 2 bottles of each type. Or for an added twist, ask your guests to each bring 2 bottles of their favorite wine. If you do this you will need them to email or phone you with the wine information ahead of time.
  • Printed wine tasting cards that list the wines you purchased with some information from the bottle
  • Pencils in case guests want to make notes about their favorites
  • Wine glasses. We recommend 2 per person. One for tasting and one for later
  • Plain saltine or oyster crackers for guests to cleanse their palates
  • Still (plain) water for rinsing
  • Some good music, good conversationalists and a sense of fun!
If you want to add an extra flare to the party, why not serve a variety of champagnes instead. Have friends bring cava, prosecco, sparkling wine and champagne instead of a red or white wine.

At the end of the event, serve some crackers/bread, cheese and fruit or some other small/light appetizers and offer each guest a glass of his/her favorite wine. Wine charms are a fun thing to introduce at this point. Each person can pick her/her own and attach to the glass. Put on some music and enjoy the company. However, above all things, drink and serve responsibly!
